Eco-friendly small firms called on to promote their green credentials

Environmentally-friendly small businesses, which want to boost their green credentials, have been called on to enter the Environment and Energy Awards before the competition’s entry fee increases on Christmas Eve.

Event-organisers Sustainabilitylive! are seeking businesses which are innovative in their energy saving methods. Small firms are not eligible to enter all award categories, but can apply for the Energy Manager of the Year Award and Sustainable Business of the Year Award.

There is also an award dedicated to firms with up to 250 employees which make energy saving a priority despite a limited budget – the SME Award for Energy Efficiency.

Until 23 December, applicants will be charged £50 + VAT per entry. However, from 24 December onwards this fee increases to £65 + VAT. There will be no charge for entries to the ESTA Energy Manager of the Year Award or the Environmental/Sustainability Manager of the Year Award.

Last year’s winner of the SME Award for Energy Efficiency was the Best Western Moor Hall & Spa. Commenting on the awards ceremony, the firm’s HR manager Jenny Tomlinson said: “The importance of energy efficiency was reflected in the large number of awards and quality of candidates – it was refreshing to meet so many enthusiastic people. It was an ideal event for getting our little company ‘on the map’ and earning recognition for all our hard work.”

The deadline for entries is 13 January 2012.
