Search is on for most innovative mobile products and services

Innovative start-ups and small firms producing products and services related to the mobile phone industry are being called on to enter a new competition, backed by UK Trade & Investment.

The UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company awards are aimed at firms whose products or services could change the way people use mobile phones. Applicants must be UK-based and have less than 250 employees.

“Future growth depends on our ability to generate ideas that have real global reach,” said minister for culture, communications and creative industries Ed Vaizey. “The UK has already had an enormous impact on the global market and this competition aims to highlight the future stars of the industry.”

A spokesperson for award organisers Smart UK Project added: “The UK has traditionally been a leader in the mobile industry. Global giants such as Vodafone are headquartered in the UK. But the UK is also a hotbed for small firms that can turn the industry on its head – these are the companies we are hoping to showcase.”

Entrants to date include Jadu, a mobile web-publishing network which allows users to create mobile websites and applications in a non-technical manner.

The overall winner will be showcased on an international platform, as well as being able to display the logo for ‘UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company – winner 2012’ on all corporate literature and branding.

The deadline for entries is 14 December. The winner will be crowned at the Mobile World Congress exhibition in 2012.
